Aquaman Review: DC’s Thor underwater

Rating 3.5/5

Language: English

Running time: 2 hours 23 minutes

Director: James Wan

Production: Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, The Safran Company, Cruel and Unusual Films, Mad Ghost Productions

Starring: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman

Finally a movie from DC’s stable (after Wonder Woman in this phase by DC) that is worth talking about. It is funny at times, has good CGI and does do justice to characters for the most part.

The CGI was on point. But, the costumes were a little off and I especially thought that Mera’s costume was the worst adaptation from the comics.

The refinement and the pace of the movie is a little off and the film seemed longer and still left you wanting more.

The Black Manta hand-to-hand combat lacked spirit, though the roof chase sequence of Mera and Aquaman is done well .

Story of Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) is the only one which seemed incomplete. The story is very similar to Marvel’s Thor and which did not have well defined characters either.

Performance:

Jason Momoa fits the character of Aquaman well with his personality and is witty as Arthur. Willem Dafoe is always a good performer and his role as Nuidis Vulko is no different. Amber Heard as Mera, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane / Black Manta do a good job with their respective characters. Nicole Kidman’s Atlanna isn't impressive enough.

Excellent CGI work and well choreographed fight sequences.

Conclusion:

In the present phase of DC movies the movie can be easily rated the 2nd best movie to have come out after Wonder Woman. The story and performances are entertaining. A good watch overall. I rate it 3.5 out of 5 star.
