A tribute to the Indian armed forces like no other before it, this action-packed thrilling movie keeps you high on “josh” for most of the time. All but the last action sequence, was fast paced, clinical and exciting to watch. The marksmanship of the Indian soldiers has been shown brilliantly, but same can’t be said about the Pakistani counterparts (I guess the issue could be the Chinese guns used by them 😜)
The movie could have been a clinical revenge story. The melodrama and dialogues which are injected for a forceful sense of patriotism is used like a safety net for the movie.
The story is divided into chapters and the most exciting one is the final chapter- Surgical Strike. The entire sequence is riveting.
The movie fails in trying to show the hero as human as well.
Performance:
Vicky Kaushal is an amazing actor and shows his range by playing the gritty, brave and revengeful Army officer with a physique and finesse that it requires.
Mohit Raina plays a short role but is convincing.
Even though Yami Gautam and Kirti Kulhari both have given decent performances the characters played by them are weak, forced and somewhat avoidable in the plot and fail to add value to the movie.
Cinematography is awesome and has moments that make military action look real and punishing. Excellent background score that makes the movie sequences indulgent.
A lot of patriotic dialogues feel forced while the war cries are rousing.
Conclusion:
The movie has people cheer on each kill by the army. We had the entire theater chant Jai hind at the end of the movie followed by applause.
The strike team war cry causes an adrenalin rush and that along with the excellent action sequences, a more compact running time and good performances could have made this movie the cool new generation slick movie that it tries to be. I rate this movie 4 out of 5.
