Zero Review: Zero Screenplay.

Ratings 2/5

Language: Hindi

Running time: 2 hours 44 minutes

Director: Aanand L. Rai

Producer: Gauri Khan

Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif

A chance for changing the trend of the established superstars spewing out flops after flops, Zero starts with a lot of promise in the first half of the movie. The way cerebral palsy and dwarfism have been handled is tasteful. Both Bauua Singh played by SRK and Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder played by Anushka Sharma are shown overcoming their disabilities by being confident and successful. Both are able to find humor in their situations and each other, which is a positive.

But things do change in the second half of the movie. Just for the sake of the movie's story a character like Aafia is just pressured into a marriage. Bauua’s behavior and response to Babita Kumari’s kiss and what follows can be explained as a small-town syndrome. But, things like Meerut to Mars, random selection of people for a billion-dollar space mission and wedding of the project leads on the day the project hits the floor are just bull-shit ideas that do more harm to the movie than help it.

Performance:

SRK does a great job as Bauua Singh. Is an entertainer as a small-town person who is also a dwarf with a big ego. Though the performance is good, the same cannot be said about the character development.

As an actress who takes to drinking over a breakup, Katrina Kaif gives a great performance (something I don’t say a lot). She checks all the boxes with her attitude, and style.

Anushka Sharma is the weakest of the 3 leads as her depiction of a person with cerebral palsy is below par. Her portrayal and character development are both weak.

The slew of guest appearances from Sridevi (as herself) to R. Madhavan (as Srinivasan, Aafia’s fiancé and fellow scientist), don’t have much to do in the movie.

Conclusion:

The first half of the movie is funny and fun to watch. The second is over the top and is mostly unbearable. It makes you wonder why you ever thought of coming for this movie. I am rating this movie 2 out of 5 just for SRK's performance and nothing else.
